knit regalia

The 7 unique woven outfits, called “regalia” were designed on a computer and made by the Boitumelo Sewing Project, a collective of artisans and crafters who teach sewing and weaving to individuals in inner-city Johannesburg. The group has since extended its reach throughout various communities throughout Africa, facilitating in educational workshops with children and adults of all ages. Similar to the beaded panels created by Ziman, the regalia consist of several woven pieces sewn by different individuals and then sewn together.
