Afrika47 collective
The Afrika47 Collective is a global network of creatives, fabricators, artisans, and cultural collaborators whose work is integral to the realization of artist Ralph Zimanβs large-scale projects. Spanning countries, cultures, languages, disciplines, and time zones, the Collective brings together highly specialized forms of knowledge and craftsmanship within a shared creative undertaking. From beadwork and fabrication to engineering, design, assembly, photography, and installation, each project depends upon the coordinated labor of many hands.
More than a production network, Afrika47 reflects a philosophy of collective authorship and cultural exchange. Zimanβs projects are conceived through collaboration, with individual skills, traditions, and perspectives contributing richness to a larger whole. The work crosses borders both literally and conceptually, transforming objects historically associated with conflict, militarization, and division into sites of connection, beauty, dialogue, and possibility.
