We’ll be at the @seattleartfair 2025 with @museumofflight exhibiting a satelite presentation of The MiG-21 Project, the final installment of the trilogy ‘Weapons of Mass Production,’ this art piece blends history, social awareness, cultural appreciation, and the healing power of creativity by celebrating the rich tradition of South African beadwork.

We are thrilled to announce the acquisition of two

We are thrilled to announce the acquisition of two works by Ralph Ziman by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (@lacma), as a gift of Mark Dinner and Nana Quagraine.

The artworks—Beaded AK-47 (2018), a wire and glass beads replica of the assault rifle, and A Lone Woman Protests As Soldiers In Armoured Vehicles Enter Her Township 4/5 (2018)—come from The AK-47 Project and The Casspir Project respectively, two of the series in the artist’s Weapons of Mass Production trilogy.

A special thank you to Caitlin Spencer, Dhyandra Lawson, and the entire LACMA team for making this happen!

An exclusive treat for the @seattleartfair 2025. Part of The MiG-21 Project’s regalia component, this helmet encapsulates the project’s Afrofuturistic essence. Inspired by the intersection of African culture with science fiction, technology, fantasy, and magic realism, this vision also parallels the Zambian Space Program, an ambitious yet little-known initiative that sought to propel Africa into the space race in the 1960s.

The MiG-21 Project is the final installment in South African artist Ralph Ziman’s trilogy ‘Weapons of Mass Production,’ this art piece blends history, social awareness, cultural appreciation, and the healing power of creativity by celebrating the rich tradition of South African beadwork. While the full-scale aircraft will remain at the @museumofflight, the fair installation will feature:

The MiG-21 Project is the final installment of the trilogy “Weapons of Mass Production”. This art piece blends history, social awareness, cultural appreciation, and the healing power of creativity by celebrating the rich tradition of South African beadwork.

Working with artisans from Zimbabwe and the Mpumalanga province of South Africa, the team has covered a Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 in millions of beads. By collaborating with some of the people most impacted by Apartheid, I hope to reclaim that history by turning symbols of oppression into positive works of art.
